Upgrading our RV Batteries and adding Solar has been a game changer for us. Dry-camping in the dark and having devices constantly drained is not "RVING". When we first started we had no idea how solar works or where to start and this video is help you make sense of solar.
Here is an introduction to Solar and the first of our Making Sense of Solar video series:
Topics Covered in this video:
1. Why we moved to solar
2. How does solar work
3. Identifying your dry-camping needs
4. Why we moved from a 12v battery to two 6v batteries
5. Reviewing our install & setup
6. Giveaways! 40-watt portable panel and LED lighting kit

Our approach to working with partners:
It's important to mention that our opinions can never be purchased and we're not getting paid from Zamp or Battery Systems. They provided the products for us to give our honest review and feedback. We would not recommend any company or product unless we were confident they would take care of the KYD Community!

回复删除I enjoy your series and look forward to each and every one. One quick question - Is a purchase technically required to enter the drawing? If that is the case you may want to check the legality of the contest. Keep enjoying your travels!
回复删除The zamp is overpriced, by alot! Don't feed the greed!
回复删除Question.... For those of us that hate math, would it not be practical to just run six 100w solar panels to charge a 500 ah battery bank, which powers a 3000w inverter?
回复删除The 3000 watt pure sine wave inverter I already have, and am still doing my homework on what solar options will best suit my needs.
My main need after working in the hot humid night in Tennessee, is to have my 5000 btu 120v A/C home window air conditioner running while I sleep in my van parked in an open lot in the blazing hot Tennessee sun.
So back to my question.... Isn't having a system that will provide as much power possible in the space I have available the best way to go?
I just discovered your channel. Your how tos are different than all the others I’ve watched - full of tons of useful information. Thanks so much!
回复删除Man those are Kool
回复删除Thanks for this series. Great information and you guys are fun to watch! Keep at it..
回复删除Just have to say coffee is more important than computer lol. Guess that's what starbucks is for.
回复删除Hi very interested in solar, I use a generator now, but just wondering how do you keep your fridge running at all times? You didn’t mention it. Is it running on battery??
回复删除I went looking for Part 2 of your solar. Could you point me to it.
回复删除Thanks
Trish is super cute in this video!
回复删除How do we get to Part 2
回复删除Hey guys! I love your channel. I was just wondering if Morgan said anything about 2 deep- cycle 12V batteries in parallel? (Voltage is constant in parallel).
回复删除What about an converter for shore hookups.?
回复删除Well y'all, today, Valentines Day, 2018, I've been binge studying solar. Can't believe I missed y'all!! Since I'm a subscriber for a long time. I'm about burned out on solar (get it?), but yours was one of the best! I've finally learned that yes, we need solar instead of just a generator, which I don't have either. I'll contact, who is it, Joe, Jack, at Zamp. I'm thinking we need the two 6v batteries and enough solar to keep them charged. Oh me, inverter, converter, me old head is spinning...
回复删除Where's PART 2?
回复删除Did you make part 2?
回复删除Sooooo much GR8 information for a newby, like me... Thanks for making and sharing this video :::))) Wishing you guys a wonderful weekend... Working on buying a rig to start my nomadic life...
回复删除Here's some info for everyone that can help in life dealing with converting electricity we all use daily. Home A/C voltage, Volts x Amps = watts, Watts divided by volts =Amps. Converting all this to Vehicle, RV 12volt D.C. Just remember Times 11 anything AC Amps will be times 11 for D/C Rv, Vehicle, etc Amps. Example: You have a 110 watt inverter you plug into your power cigarette lighter outlet in your RV that converts DC to AC. The A/C converter is rated at 110 Watts A/C Which is almost 1 amp A/C power so converted to D/C power it will be about 11 AMPS D/C. In your house since most voltage is about 120 volts from house outlet a 120 watt light bulb will be about 1 A/C amp. Convert that to D/C it will be about 11 Amps. For about every 1 A/C amp it will be about 11 D/C amps. Same thing with Solar and Battery Amp hours using a DC to Ac Inverter. For every 1 AC amp = About 11 DC Amps. EXAMPLE: You have a 12 volt battery that is 200 Amp Hours , your TV draws 1 amp so times 11 is 11 Amps divided by 200 equals approx 18 hours that tv will operate on that battery.
回复删除My husband and I just bought a used beautiful Gulf Stream motorhome this weekend. We are total newbies!!!! I found your videos by accident and having this accident changed my fear of RVing totally. So I have subscribed and will watch each and everyone to learn and feel the confidence of knowing almost everything about an RV . Solar is the way to go as I can see. You guys are awesome and also funny! I love it and can't wait to hit the road. Thanks for making these videos so easy to understand.
回复删除Thank you for the info. So how can I know which portable kit to get? Thinking of getting an RV with a 15 AMP solar port already installed (for example). Thanks!
回复删除We use this system on out T@B 320 Boondocking Edition and 120 W is more than enough to keep us going even in Winter.
回复删除are all kits the same where you need to clamp directly to the battery? Are there any that plug into the hook-up instead?
回复删除OMGosh I want this!!!
回复删除awesome video, thanks for explaining this much.. this video will be a big help for starters...
回复删除How much is the product going for in Canada?
回复删除Awesome product, thank you for sharing the info.
回复删除Thanks Mark! Have been shopping for a system that I don't have to permanently attach to my motorhome.
