Solar panel gift on Manly beach as Common Grace ask PM Tony Abbott to #acceptthegift of solar for Kirribilli House
A diverse delegation of Christian leaders are today delivering an open letter signed by more than 800 Australians calling on Prime Minister Tony Abbott to rethink the government's rejection of the gift of solar panels for Kirribilli House.
"Experts have assured us there is really no practical reason to reject the gift of solar panels for Kirribilli House," said Jody Lightfoot, climate justice campaigner at Common Grace.
"We understand the important heritage value of Kirribilli House so we had a chat to Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore who told us the City of Sydney has already installed 5,500 solar panels on nearly 30 buildings including ones with irreplaceable heritage value such as Sydney Town Hall,” said Mr Lightfoot.
The letter rejecting the solar panels came via Michael McCormack, Member for Riverina, in his capacity as the parliamentary secretary to the finance minister.
“The rejection of our gift of solar panels for Kirribilli House is symbolic of the government’s failure to invest in renewables, but we’re here to provide the Prime Minister with an opportunity to choose a brighter future for all Australians and to back the 9 in 10 Australians who want a strong Renewable Energy Target," said Mr Lightfoot.
"We know that climate change means more frequent and intense extreme weather events hitting the world's poorest people the hardest. We only need to look to our Pacific Island neighbours to see the devastating cost of climate change. We could be leading the world in taking action on climate change and as Christians we urge Prime Minister Abbott not to reject the sun's grace," said Jarrod McKenna, National Director of Common Grace.
The gift of twelve solar panels was crowdfunded over four days in December by Common Grace, a movement of Christians who are passionate about Jesus and justice. The Solar Council (the peak body for the solar industry in Australia) offered to install the crowdfunded solar panels for Kirribilli House at no cost.
“Trying something new can feel daunting, but we encourage Prime Minister Abbott to look to the Vatican where in 2008 Pope Benedict accepted a gift of 2700 solar panels to provide clean energy to the Holy See," said Sister Jan Barnett of the Sisters of Saint Joseph.
“More than one hundred Australians pitched in to buy the gift of solar for Kirribilli House and now hundreds more are urging the Prime Minister to accept our gift. The solar panels are a gift for the nation, from the nation, to demonstrate public support for a clean energy future,” said Byron Smith, Assistant Minister, St George's Anglican Church.
“If the City of Sydney can install solar panels on the Sydney Town Hall just across the harbour and Pope Benedict could accept a gift of solar panels for the Vatican, we believe Prime Minister Abbott has no excuses for not accepting our free gift for his Sydney residence," said Mr Smith.
“If the Prime Minister accepts the gift of solar for Kirribilli House he’ll be in good company with 1 in 5 Australian households already using solar,” he said.
The open letter encouraging the Prime Minister to accept the solar gift (signed by more than 800 Australians in the last five days) is below.
Christian leaders delivering the open letter today: Sister Jan Barnett, Sisters of Saint Joseph; Rev. Dr Michael Frost, Founder of Small Boat Big Sea; Byron Smith, Assistant Minister, St George's Anglican Church; Rev. John Buchanan, Minister, St Peter's Presbyterian Church; Rev. David Gore, Uniting Church Minister; Weis Shiuringa, Member, Quakers; Jacqui Remond, Director, Catholic Earthcare Australia; Jody Lightfoot, Climate Justice Campaigner, Common Grace.
THE OPEN LETTER:
Dear Prime Minister Abbott,
We are disappointed that the Government has rejected the gift of solar panels for Kirribilli House that was crowd funded last Christmas by 142 Christians. We had hoped you would accept them as a great first step to get Australia moving towards a strong Renewable Energy Target.
We understand that the reasons for declining the gift are Kirribilli House’s heritage listing, ongoing costs of cleaning and maintenance, and security concerns. So we did some research and found many people in your home state and abroad have overcome these challenges.
Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore informed us that the City of Sydney has already installed 5,500 solar panels on nearly 30 buildings including ones with irreplaceable heritage value such as Sydney Town Hall. We discovered Australia’s own actress, Cate Blanchett, installed 1,906 solar panels on Sydney Theatre Company heritage building. I’m sure she’d be willing to give some pointers if you gave her a call?
On cleaning concerns, John Grimes, CEO of the peak body of the solar industry in Australia (Australian Solar Council), informed us that solar panels do not require ongoing cleaning or yearly maintenance - they are cleaned by the rain. Some utilities require a check of the inverter, but this can be done on the ground every five years.
Looking abroad, did you know that President Carter managed to get solar panels installed on the White House way back in 1979? And Pope Benedict negotiated the same kinds of hurdles when he accepted a gift of 2700 solar panels providing clean energy to the Vatican in 2008.
Prime Minister, we believe that a man in your position can overcome challenges like heritage listings and cleaning concerns and choose a brighter future for all Australians. We therefore urge you to implement a strong Renewable Energy Target and accept the gift of solar panels for Kirribilli House, as a powerful signal to the world that Australia’s renewables industry is officially open for business.
Yours sincerely,
Australian Christians and friends

Enormous flat panel tv's were once thought of as a appliance for the wealthy, not now when the outlay has fallen so dramatically, this is why 3D Televisions are available for dwelling use.
Remember the times when plasma TVs first came out, they were over £1375, now you can pick up a 42" lcd TV that is a leading brand for only £389, so in the next 3 to 5 years 3D TVs will switch the LCD and plasma screens of today but will they be worth it?
Samsung PS63C7000
This television is Samsung's series 7 range, and is a full high definition 63" plasma television with the added advantage of also being able to play 3D videos. The set is packed full of features including 4 HDMI connections so that you can connect up all your HD devices.
What makes this display so good-looking to me, is that in my earlier plasma screen was almost 80mm deep, this beauty is only 36mm deep and will be the envy of anyone's' neighbours when one of these televisions are delivered.
The monitor size is a gigantic 1498 mm wide x 965 mm high x 36mm deep and weighing only 38 KG with out the bracket, who would want to mount this on a stand? Of course you would want to mount this on your wall via the 600 x 400 VESA mount on the rear of the set.
The screen will let you to go online with internet television giving you a real clean and crisp image from the high resolution of 1920 x 1080 with 1080 full high definition motion.
Another good feature of this tv is the film mode (cinema progressive) offering cinema smooth films through the 3D HyperReal engine.
So all you have to do now is find a 3D DVD or Bluray player and a pair of 3D movies and you are all set for your primary showing, but don't overlook your 3D glasses.
Graham owns the leading manufacturer of a range of outdoor LCD enclosure, this range of monitor enclosure is supplied throughout the world to digital signage integrators.

Here is a look at my flexible solar panels one year after the installation. They still perform great, but there is something I would do different next time when mounting with only Eternabond tape.

MORE ABOUT THIS EPISODE
A year ago I installed three 100 watt flexible solar panels on the roof of my RV. Two of the panels were installed by drilling holes and using screws to hold the panel in place. A third panel was installed as an experiment using no screws and no drilling. I used Eternabond tape around the edges of the solar panel to secure it to my rubber roof. All three panels have been subjected to a year of sun, heat, rain and cold.
As far as solar performance, they all continue to perform very well though I don't cover this in the video.
The two flexible solar panels that are screwed in to the roof and sealed with Dicor lap sealant are still very strong and secure. The third panel secured with only Eternabond tape is still holding strong as well, but has had a little water collect under the panel. At first I was confused as to how water got under the panel. Then I noticed a small openning in the corners of the panel where water collected and seeped under the tape. I should have provided a way to prevent water from collecting in the corners. Nevetheless, some water seeped under the panel. Also I should have secured the edges of the solar panel better with some double sided tape. That would have prevented this problem as well.
Overall, the flexible solar panels are doing well.

It finally happened! We started out solar journey. This isn't how we saw it happening, but we're very glad it did. Already we're feeling the benefits of offsetting out generator use. Not just the fuel and cost savings, but the convenience too.
Solar has been on our radar for some time and we recently ran into Go Power at an RV convention. We discussed with them our situation, concerns and frustrations with solar. During the conversation portable solar came up as an option for getting started today on a budget and with the intent to only offset our generator use. This approach had escaped us because we were looking so far forward. We were trying to size the "now-and-later" solar setup, but it's just hard to do, especially on a budget.
In the end we made the leap, picked up a portable array and are very happy that our generator use had declined to nill. Sure it's summer so there's lots of sun available. Perhaps by winter we'll have a better feel for solar, our power needs and be more capable of sizing a system to fit our future needs.
We wanted to share this story with you because we were overcomplicating solar and it was a huge relief to discover that it doesn't have to be. Starting small can make sense especially if you're boondocking, looking for an array to power your campsite or are heading off grid. Had we known this was an option, or at least not overlooked it, when we arrived it would have been in our toolbox for certain.
If you need portable solar or just plain simple solar, give these portable arrays a look or even a try and see if they'll meet your power needs for today. It's a great way to get started!

With depletion in sources of fossil fuels, using solar panels to produce energy is an eco-friendly way to fulfill energy requirements. If you stay in areas where there is ample sunlight, installing solar panels can greatly reduce your energy bills.
What Are Solar Panels?
Solar panels are arrays of photovoltaic cells arranged in a grid-like manner on the panel that use solar energy to produce electricity. The photovoltaic cells absorb sunlight during the day and convert it into electricity, store it in batteries for use in everyday life. The amount of energy produced depends on the intensity of sunlight, the technology and the materials used in making the solar panels and how old the panels are.
Crystalline silicon is the material used for making one type of panel and the photovoltaic cells comprise gallium arsenide. The other type of amorphous silicon solar panels is sleeker, more hardy and efficient as compared to the crystalline silicon solar panels. The difference lies in the construction process, wherein the second type, deposition of amorphous silicon alloy in a continuous rolling process produces the panel.
Solar panels in space missions have very fine p-n junction diodes that absorb the maximum spectrum of solar energy available. The cells comprise of gallium arsenide and the construction involves a complex and expensive process called molecular beam epitaxy. However, with advances in nanotechnology, scientists are developing better, energy efficient and more compact solar cells for use in devices like laptops. Moreover, these panels are cheaper, so they will find wider application in consumer products.
Installing Solar Panels
The rooftop of your home or office is the best place to install the solar panels. Ideally, install it in a way that it gets direct sunlight all through the year so that it produces energy optimally. You can check the direction for proper placement using freely available web resources that chart the sun's movement, or take the help of an expert. Secondly, remove any shades and tree branches that obstruct direct sunlight from falling on the panel.
Install the solar panel using a solar panel mount that is of three types; pole mount, flush mount and roof-ground mount. Put the panel on an RV, on the pole, the roof or simply as a stand-alone unit.
For efficient functioning, it is important to maintain and clean the glass top and the supporting frame of the solar panels of dust and dirt that accumulates over time. You can do this yourself using warm water dishwashing soap and soft cloth or hire professionals to do the same. These simple steps can help maintain the panels for up to thirty years with minimal effort.
Thus, solar panels are a good investment for your property, resulting in clean energy and helping in conservation of energy for the planet.
Reynold Powers is an author of spheralsolar(www.spheralsolar.com), One of the best Solar Panels & Home Power Kits company. He has been writing on solar panels since long time.

Solar energy is a complicated science that is making its way into the common marketplace. Homeowners are looking at equipping their houses with solar panels to generate solar energy that is then used to power every item. But how do solar panels work and are they reliable enough to make them worthwhile in a residential application?
What Are Solar Panels?
Essentially these panels are made from silicon bound together with other elements to create both a positive and negative charge.
How Do They Generate Electricity?
Often phosphorus (which has five electrons) is added to silicon (which has four electrons and room for four additional) to form one panel that is negatively charged (eight stable electrons with a ninth bonded but unneeded). When the rays from the sun hit this panel, the photons in the sunlight knock off the extra electrons.
This action generates electricity in a solar panel due to the second positive panel underneath and the conductive wires that connect the two. The positive panel is made up of silicon (four electrons with room for eight) and boron (three electrons) creating an extra space that then draws the extra electrons across the conductive wires. A lone solar cell would only generate a miniscule amount of electricity, but when these panels are large, with multiple cells, a larger amount of movement occurs between the two panels, generating a larger amount of electricity.
How Is This Electricity Stored?
Most systems will store the electricity generated into a chemical battery, which can then run whatever is connected to it. Home applications can be tied back into the grid, although this requires that large amounts of excess electricity be generated. Expansive panels are really the only way to do this – more cells equal more movement of electrons creating more electricity.
What Happens When the Sun is Not Shining?
This is the biggest challenge in this type of generation. The goal of solar panel manufacturers is to create panels that are efficiently generating more power than is needed, storing it up for times when the sun is not shining.
Keep in mind that the sunlight also includes infrared and ultraviolet rays. These contribute to the breakdown of the panels along with elements of the weather like snow, rain and hail. Panels must be made strong enough to withstand these dangers and yet include the right elements to generate the power. It is a fine balance that also relies on the angle of the negative panel which must be exposed to the photons for the entire system to work.
This is only a general description of the mechanisms in a solar panel. Much of it is basic chemistry, but the system relies on many variables that can make it ineffective and result in little to no power generation.
For the latest energy saving (and generating) addition to your home go online to find the best solar panel quotes and other energy efficient features like upvc conservatories that keep the heat in your home and keep it comfortable and relaxing
Are you irritated monthly due to the high price of electricity?
There is a solution to that problem, but first you need financial capital.

This is a a very inexpensive project that gives beautiful results. Begin with combining the solar panels in a way to receive a 12V source with a 300mA minimum. Attach the solar panels to a sheet of foam and solder cables equal to the length of the distance between your solar panels and your LED lights. Position the solar panels on the highest point around you (obviously outside). Solder your solar panel cable to the switch and then your LED lights.
Even though your LED lights will be powered during the day I highly recommend buying a total of 8 solar panels. This will ensure you always have 12 volts going to your LED lights. In case you only purchase 4 solar panels it's crucial to find the location with the longest sunshine hours.

Technological advancement is a sweeping phenomenon across all spheres in modern life. The printing fraternity has been no exception and 3D printing has revolutionized the printing industry thanks to the soaring pace of technological progression. 3D printing is the buzzword in today's' mainstream technologically savvy domains. 3D printing is a distinct form of fabrication, which is closely associated with the traditional rapid prototyping printing. The creation of a three dimensional image object in the printing processes is achieved through the layering as well relating consecutive cross sectional representation of the material. One common merit of this printing is that 3D printers are comparatively cheaper to purchase and perform print operations faster than the common printers built on additive fabrication technology.
Although prototype printing has continued its dominance on in the market, 3D printing has come along with remarkable merits and potential for end user customers. This technology is gaining popularity in the Jewelry, footwear as well as in various industrial designs. Domains of architecture and automotive and medical fraternities have also tapped in the merits of the contemporary 3D printing technology.
This printing technology constitutes fast means of getting print output unlike typical prototype forms of printing which are time consuming and labor intensive. This printing comes with the delight of speed and diminished labor to achieve quality print output. This is achieved through the cheaper and feasible means of producing prototypes through the rapid prototyping, which is the hallmark of 3D printing.
This printing surpasses other traditional printing procedures and methods such as stereo lithography. The reason is that 3D printing is tailored for speedy and low cost usage. It has clearly outlined guidelines which give room to the critical aspect of visualization along the conceptual design stages particularly in engineering domains where dimensional accuracy in design are less important. Visualization in this printing is also handy for engineering design conceptualization where the mechanical strength of the prototypes is not necessary. In 3D printing resolution is rendered in layer thickness as well as in the X-Y resolution in dpi. Standard layer thickness is normally +/- 100 micrometers (0.1mm). The X-Y resolution can be related to that of the laser printers.
While all forms of technology have their different merits and demerit, this printing has brought along remarkable delights in the printing, design and engineering domains thanks to its numerous advantages. Some salient advantages of this printing enlist the following; on-the-fly 3D technology facilitates the generation of prototypes which closely resemble the mechanical properties of the design in focus.3D technological ranges allow for the combination of black and white rigid matter as a way of generating a series of grayscales to suit various consumer electronics and other applications.
This printing is less time consuming and labor intensive since it eliminates the need to design, print and bring together different model components created with different materials in order to complete a model. As much other competing technologies are galore in the market 3D printing technologies tops the range since most of the competing technologies are still built on additive technologies which are of inevitable inferiority to the formidable 3d printing technology.

You may have already seen people making use of solar power on their camping trips. Don't be fooled into thinking they must have loads of money to be able to afford it either.
Today, solar power is cheaper than ever and a portable solar panel is the perfect solution for power on a camping trip. So if you regularly go camping you should take another look at this renewable form of energy.
Of course, when deciding on a solar system you need to make sure that it's practical, reliable and portable.
It's very convenient to have a solar power system with you when you are out and about with your RV. Some campers still find the whole system as extravagant and unnecessary. This is true if you only go to camp sites that have power hookups. These sites have one drawback in that you need to book well in advance to ensure a hookup. If you have an RV with a solar panel then you can arrive at any camping site safe in the knowledge that you have available power whether they have a spare hookup or not. You can also explore quiet and remote places for a couple of days where others can't go because of their dependency on an electrical supply.
Before you go camping however, it's wise to calculate your exact electrical requirements and don't forget to add in a reserve for those cloudy days. If your solar source of power is going to be the solar system it's probably best to plan your trips in the sunnier months of the year.
Get enough solar panels to recharge your batteries in a reasonable amount of time. It's no good to drain the batteries if your solar panels need a few days to recharge them.
It's essential to correctly calculate your power usage before choosing your system. After you have worked out your daily power usage and have added some on for reserve you can then safely decide what sort of system will fulfill your needs.
Today, there are several solar power systems that are suitable to RVs. There are many price ranges to suit a wide variety of budgets. It's wise to cut down on your electrical devices or find more energy efficient versions. You are trying to get away from it all but some things you just can't or shouldn't do without.
You don't have to have an RV to benefit from solar power while camping. There are many lightweight and portable systems out there for solar power. There are foldable panels that spread out like a blanket to catch the sun's rays. You can get these in a variety of sizes, some big enough to power a laptop computer or some just big enough to charge a rechargeable lantern. If you're a hiker you can get a pack with solar built in that provides enough power to charge a mobile phone, torch or iPod.
Solar power is no longer limited to homes, offices, and other big establishments. Now, it is already possible to carry solar power systems anywhere you go. There is no doubt that camping is more enjoyable if you have a solar system with you. Gas guzzling generators can now be given the flick when you can get free power from the sun. In the US, solar power is growing in popularity and more and more households are now using them.
For your next camping trip why don't you investigate solar power for yourself. Plan your outing carefully and make sure that you pick the right time of year as well. If it's cloudy weather you might find yourself without power until the sun comes out which is no fun. Solar power is clean and renewable so you can stay out camping for as long as you like if you keep are careful eye on your power consumption.

Using the energy from the sun has always been used among humans for centuries. With the growing interest of power saving, solar panels have become all the hype to buy.
What are solar panels?
To understand what these are, you need to understand how solar energy works. Solar energy is the use of energy through the sun. The sun is the closest star and this is where we can get our energy. Solar energy has be used for centuries and has been a source of energy for many modern usages today. Some ways we use solar energy is when we do laundry and we dry the clothes by placing them outside in the sun. The sun dries the clothes. In some countries, they also use solar energy to warm up their food and ferment grape juice to make wine. The sun offers a good deal of benefits.
Like solar energy, solar panels generate electricity to preserve energy for the night. These can cut your electricity bill down by half each month. Many argue that they are too expensive. To this argument, you need to see how much you are spending on your electricity bill each month. There is a one time price for solar panels and then your bill is cut in half. If you calculate through that method, you will be able to see the savings of solar panels.
Remember, they are environmentally safe. They pose no harm to your home and actually help your home become a power saver. Most homes today are being built with them pre-installed, saving you the trouble of installing the panels and already saving you the money on your electric bill each month. And they have advanced to not only giving you light in the dark, but also heating your water and running your air conditioner. There are many advances as society changes. The regulator helps balance the refraction from the panels. Now that you know a little bit about solar panels, read up a little more and make the informed decision to switch to solar power. Solar paneling is the next best thing.
